Silver jewelry is affordable and easy to match to almost any outfit, and a set of silver tableware are perfect to any table. Unfortunately, the appearance of this versatile metal changes significantly over time, sometimes in just a few months after purchase, and cleaning solutions are rather expensive and difficult to find. If you have a loaded jewelry box too black to be used or if you have given up serving the dessert with the silver spoon received a gift from your grandmother for the same reason, you will be delighted to find out how you can make a solution to clean the silver at home.
Homemade cleaning solution for silver
You need:
– a glass of water
– 1 tablespoon of baking soda
– 1 tablespoon of salt
– 100 ml of vinegar
– aluminum foil
– a bowl
– a microfiber cloth
How to prepare
Put the water to boil. Meantime, put the aluminium foil over the bottom of the bowl, taking care to put the glossy side up.
Pour salt and baking soda over the aluminum foil. Add the vinegar slowly (it will make a foam) and mix everything with a spoon until salt and baking soda have dissolved. It’s important not to jump over this step because microgranules can scratch the silver.
Add the boiled water over the above solution, and then sink the silver objects completely into the liquid. Let them stay for at least 5 minutes (you can turn them from time to time on other sides), then take them out of the water and clean them with the microfiber cloth.
